Stradbroke Island Ferry
From Brisbane & manly
Experience the magic of North Stradbroke Island, or as it is affectionately known to locals, “Straddie”.
Straddie is the second largest sand Island in the world and home of the traditional owners, the Quandamooka people.
There is plenty to see and do on Straddie and perhaps you want to stay a little longer! To plan your adventure on Straddie visit www.stradbrokeisland.com
2 Departure Locations
Hamilton, Brisbane – This service offers the convenience of a Brisbane River departure and will have you soaking up the vibe of Straddie in just one hour and this is the most exciting way to get there! Our departure point at Northshore Hamilton Ferry Terminal on the Brisbane River offers an abundance of free car parking and is also accessible by the City Cat, train and bus services. The terminal is a 10-15 minute trip by Uber or Taxi from the CBD.
Our quick trip from the Brisbane River will take you across the magnificent Moreton Bay, a sea country full of Dolphins, Dugongs, Turtles, Humpback Whales (seasonal) and crystal-clear turquoise water. Humpback Whales can be spotted easily from the island during the whale season (June to October).
Manly, Brisbane – North Stradbroke Island has never been closer! In just 30 minutes we will have you soaking up the relaxed vibes of Straddie.
With ample free parking around the William Gunn Jetty, take the stress out of your journey to Straddie.
There simply isn’t a better way of getting to Stradbroke Island.
Our destination is the small seaside township of Dunwich which is the hub to start your exploration of Straddie.
We highly recommend exploring the world-famous beaches and eco trails as well as participating in a cultural experience. Visit www.stradbrokeisland.com to access all the activities and experiences available to you while you are on Straddie.
A bus service operates from the One Mile Jetty at Dunwich (our arrival point on the Island) and services the Island. Day pass tickets are just $10 for Adults and $5 for Children per day and allow you to take time exploring at your leisure.
To ensure a seat onboard, we recommend booking, however we do allow walk passengers and we can take payment on the boat via EFTPOS subject to availability.
Get away from the busy city for a fun-filled Stradbroke Island day trip, experiencing the vibrant culture and exploring the breathtaking nature of Stradbroke with River to Bay’s Stradbroke Island Ferry service.

- Our crossing to Moreton Island can become rough and we advise anyone that suffers from seasickness to take their medication prior to travel.
- If you do begin to feel unwell please advise the crew so they can move you to a more comfortable seat or provide sick bags.
ARE THERE ANY MEDICAL OR HEALTH RESTRICTIONS?
- Given the changing conditions on the bay and our high speed boats, the trip can become quite exciting. While the seats are safe and comfortable, the motion could aggravate an existing back condition.
- Similarly, some activities are strenuous and not suitable to be undertaken by people with heart conditions.
- We reserve the right to refuse travel in the interests of your own health and safety.

What are the age restrictions on board?
- We recommend that children under 5 don’t go on board due to the boat being a high-speed vehicle.
Are the age restrictions just a recommendation?
- The age restrictions are just a recommendation made by the team at River to Bay. It is recommended that if you decide to bring your child on board who is below the age of 5, you check the weather on the day, as if it is a rough day, it won’t be very comfortable for the child on board. The child will need to sit in a middle seat and needs to be held the whole time by a parent or guardian. Due to this recommendation, if anything were to happen to your child on board, the River to Bay team are not liable for this.
Do I need to buy a ticket for my baby to come on board?
- Yes, all children under the age of 12 will need to have a child ticket booked for them.
Are you allowed to bring bikes on board?
- Yes, if required, bikes are allowed on board, however, there is very minimal room on board for things like this so please understand that if on the day the boat is packed to the maximum amount within the safety guidelines your bike may be declined to come on board. Once this is considered and you decide to bring your bike on board, please know that River to Bay is not liable for any damages that may be caused on board.
Are you allowed to bring electric scooters on board?
- Yes, if required, electric scooters are allowed on board, however, there is very minimal room on board for things like this so please understand that if on the day the boat is packed to the maximum amount within the safety guidelines your bike may be declined to come on board.
If you decide to bring it, please be aware that the boat will be open it is not an enclosed boat unless it is raining, we will pull down the clear sides to ensure the customers don’t get wet.
With all of this considered, if you still decide to bring your scooter, please know that River to Bay is not liable for any damages that may be caused on board.
Are you allowed to bring luggage on board?
- Yes, within reason, at the moment there is not a lot of spare room on board. Currently our team are working on installing a landing at the back of the boat that will allow for more storage on board.
Are dogs allowed on board?
- Dogs are allowed on the boat under the conditions that, the dog must be on a lead at all times, the dog must not be considered dangerous or at risk of endangering others and that customers on board need to consider the size of the dog as we do not have a lot of spare space on board so we wouldn’t really recommend bringing bigger dogs.
Are your boats wheelchair accessible?
- We are still working on being wheelchair accessible, such as trying to implement something on board that ensures that the wheelchair and the person on the wheelchair is safe and secure on the trip. Please keep an eye out on our website to see when this has been implemented.
